Mom, she’s your best friend. You can always count on her to help you through any situation, whether that’s a messy break-up or a messy room. And, with Mother’s Day quickly approaching, it got us thinking, being a real estate agent is really like being your mom.
For example, remember when you asked mom for permission if you could have a friend over and she asked if your room was clean? Chances are you weren’t a happy camper. But, she had a point. A first impression is everything, and the same holds true if you’re selling a home. A realtor will remind you to tidy up before a showing. You know, make sure the bed is made, the floor is vacuumed and no, do not stuff your clothes in the closet as if you’re 17 again.
Mom will always be there for you. Let’s be honest, she’s the one you turn to the most (Don’t say anything to dad). A real estate agent is your trusted source for anything and everything in regards to buying and selling a home. No matter the time of day, even if it’s late at night, they’ll have the phone by their side to answer your call. Remember checking in with your mom when you got somewhere with your friends? And if you forgot to respond, mom’s instincts would suspect the worst-case scenario. Okay, so a realtor isn’t that bad, but they will want to check in with you to make sure everything is going smoothly.
Did you finish your homework? Does that bring back old memories? Mom’s right, you need to do your homework if you want to be successful, whether that’s preparing for a geometry test or prepping before a client meeting. The same holds true for buying a home. You’ll need to do your homework. That means researching the neighborhood, schools, convenience to shopping and work and of course, checking out the home. Viewing a house online is like dating. You need to experience things up close to know if it’s the one. That’s some solid motherly advice there!
Moms care and love, but there is a side of them you do not want to mess with, especially if you say something stupid. They’ll consult you while giving you the honest truth, even if it hurts. Realtors do not sugarcoat things. Rather, they tell you what you need to hear. If that house you’ve been eyeing for months is suddenly off the market, you can count on an agent to be there and help pick up the pieces. But, they’ll also say it’s time to focus and move on to finding an even better home.
So this Mother’s Day, don’t forget to get mom a card and tell her how much you love her. Plus, it’s not a bad idea to send a text to your real estate agent and remind them how awesome they were in helping you find the home of your dreams.
